MOVIE DIRECTORY

Representation on screen was never a luxury. It was a claim, a declaration that a life, a language, a struggle mattered enough to be preserved in light and sound for as long as film survives. A movie ends in two hours. Its effect doesn't. A teenager who sees themselves as the hero instead of the sidekick, the lead instead of the punchline, carries that image for the rest of their life. They become the director, the writer, the parent who tells their own child a different story than the one they were told. That's not entertainment. That's inheritance.

The films in this directory were made in a decade that didn't always make room for these stories, and they got made anyway. Some were box office hits. Some barely got a release. All of them are still doing work today, decades later, in rooms their makers never imagined: a classroom, a family's Sunday rewatch, a kid discovering for the first time that their story was already being told before they were born.

This is why we watch. Not for escape. For proof.
